The Petrolia Legion, Branch 216 is a long standing part of tile community of Petrolia. We
have served Veterans, Legion Members, Ladies Auxiliary Members and our community for
Ninety plus years. The Legion has supported and continues to support Veterans, Standing
Military, R.C.M.P. and First Responders. We have supported many community issues that
have happened over the years and still suppott our community. We continue to be the
Voice for Remembrance.
Across Canada in Cities,Towns and Rural Communities the Royal Canadian Legion
is the hub, Our building was updated as a Centennial Project in 1967. It is now in need of
a major changes to make us better able to serve our community.
Our building is a split level design with a lower basement floor and an upper
second floor with no ground floor level. Renovations are needed to bring the building up
to current codes, by the upcoming changes to accessibility standards. We have the plans and a projected cost. The need to both the inside and out side of the building is over
$700,000. This work includes updating the washrooms on both levels and installing an
elevator capable of moving powered wheelchairs to our upper floor and lower floor. The
first part of the project would be one hundred eighty thousand dollars. ($180,000) This
would see the installation of an elevator and two accessible washrooms on our lower
floor. Any support your organization can give us would be appreciated. The rest of the
interior will be in concluded as funds become available. Refreshing the exterior is part of
the project's cost.
We have partnered with the Petrolia Community Foundation and the Town of
Petrolia. Cheques can be made payable to the Sarnia Community Foundation, who are
administrating our funds with a note in the memo section for the Petrolia Branch 216
building fund or to the Petrolia Legion Branch 216 building fund. Donations can also be made online securely using this link: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/29818?v2=true The Members and executive of Branch 216 Petrolia thank you for any support of this important request.
